The Creative
Statement
I approach my paintings like writing poetry or music. I start with gathering source images and building a collage of images that represent emotions and patterns. There is a combination of complementary color theory and layering that just feels like a back and forth flow. My art is heavily influenced by appreciation for figure art of the Renaissance and the enchantment of the Rococo era florals. The style my work most resembles is Abstract Realism style art combined with fundamental principles and elements of design. I have a real respect for graphic design and computer generated art which facilitates my compulsory need for organizing a plan before executing a complete work of art. Every abstract that I create is from a planned source with an intention. My body of work portrays the struggle between societal norms and the blurriness of the human inner desire to be authentic. Many of my figure pieces are symbolic of the process of working through emotional trauma, breaking free from the shame that comes from not following the rules of how a society in the box should behave. The Expressive Floral collection highlights the blurred lines on canvas to illuminate the blurred lines we create in life as we try to focus on our reality. As things come into focus, we blur out the ideas and comfort in our background. The use of bright color and figure art are influenced by the culture growing up in New Orleans. Pushing the line of appropriate and flair is the very fiber that binds the city. Each figure begins with an AI generated model figure holding the world around. The poses intentionally evoke a feeling of being inhibited, the use of chiaroscuro and complimentary color in the background push the figure out despite her insecurity as she now confidently becomes uniquely herself like poetry that begins in uncertainty and resolves in peace.
Bio
Monique Noel is an Abstract Realism Artist living in Tyler, Texas. She attended NOCCA (New Orleans Center for Creative Arts from 1995-1999. She received a BFA in 2005 from the University of New Orleans and has had several pieces showcased in New Orleans galleries in the art district pre Hurricane Katrina. Her past body of work consisted of commission-only pieces and providing various art pieces for New Orleans charity auctions. Monique Noel spent 3 years teaching drawing, studio art and survey of fine art history classes in New Orleans. Now in her 40s she is an established Creative with a signature style showcasing, one of a kind, studio Mixed Media Oil pieces available for exhibition and collection.
