We must take risks and build with what we have. God has placed the tools we need in our hands. He placed the rock in David’s hand, he placed the staff in Moses’s hand - neither were weapons. He places the right tools in your hands - in the realm he intended you to prosper in. We build things that could fall at any moment but we must view every build and potential fall as a learning experience. Our brain can only learn to grow by failure….many times. This is God’s work so our perspective must be of gratitude for the tools and winnings placed in our hands. If the loss can be met with a perspective of moving into the next chapter, you have won.
Composition: Symmetrical contrasting nature vs man. House of cards front and center in focus, trees and pointed top buildings in the background out of focus. The pitch is the focus of this piece, building with a strong base. It shows how nature and God are giving the idea and tools for everything man builds. The shape of the tree teaches that a building needs a strong base for it to have height. Each element has an upward feel.
Color theory: secondary compliments - comic book superhero inspired. There is a darkness about the piece but each color brings out the best brightness of its complimentary neighbor. The house of cards is luminated by the colors of the sky and background connecting the foreground and background together harmoniously. Darks contrast with light for dramatic feel.
Imagery & style: Surrealism - The buildings are in contrast with the trees - man vs. nature. This is symbolic of God's inspiration and influence on how man forms ideas. We build our lives using the tools we have. We are in constant fight between what we can control and what we cannot. This piece is about not being afraid to risk everything because our faith should be strong enough to trust that God is in control, not us. We receive the tools meant for us in the exact realm we are meant to be in. The cards and the buildings are built the same but they can both come down with a gust of wind. Keep a level head and keep going whatever purple and gold storm is brewing above. There will always be opportunities to rebuild a new chapter.
Triumph & Disaster - If

Strategize regardless of whether you will be triumphant or not. When things crumble, you can keep a level head about it. There are traps everywhere but the goal is always visible. Trust your judgement, trust God’s path for you because the truth is that God is in control of everything. The world will push back and say you are not good enough or intelligent enough to beat the game. Use truth to keep climbing despite the world telling you it’s too treacherous a terrain. Meet disaster with triumph and expect disaster when triumph is visible.
Composition: Bold symmetry and balance. Chess piece focal point - dark vs light, rough natural mountains in the background fading off into the unknown. Man made smooth chess board crumbling when faced with natural forces beyond human control - nature. The Knight (Armour of God) becomes the hero as it continues to stand strong as a focal point and appears to be the most stable piece.
Color theory: primary colors in comic book, superhero relationship. Yellow represents the faith and hope ahead, blue (the calm) and red (anger) surrounding the piece pushing a storm. The comic book hero in all of us is fueled by the trauma of our past that we must continue to fight.
Imagery & Style: Surrealism - color illumination on chess board ties the pieces together. The red and yellow sky reflects off the board blending the harsh terrain of nature with the crumbling man made game board we all create for ourselves. The chess board is the game of life we build for ourselves. The pieces on the chess board are man vs man. This game is the game we are playing with one side being the worldly ideology and the other side being our God given path, our truth, one always strategizing to beat the other even though we have no control over the condition of the board itself.

The vibrancy is overwhelming to our human eye. This piece is a dedication to that evening golden hour of the day when all is settling to rest.
The Creative
Statement
I approach my paintings like writing poetry or music. I start with gathering source images and building a collage of images that represent emotions and patterns. There is a combination of complementary color theory and layering that just feels like a back and forth flow. My art is heavily influenced by appreciation for figure art of the Renaissance and the enchantment of the Rococo era florals. The style my work most resembles is Abstract Realism style art combined with fundamental principles and elements of design. I have a real respect for graphic design and computer generated art which facilitates my compulsory need for organizing a plan before executing a complete work of art. Every abstract that I create is from a planned source with an intention. My body of work portrays the struggle between societal norms and the blurriness of the human inner desire to be authentic. Many of my figure pieces are symbolic of the process of working through emotional trauma, breaking free from the shame that comes from not following the rules of how a society in the box should behave. The Expressive Floral collection highlights the blurred lines on canvas to illuminate the blurred lines we create in life as we try to focus on our reality. As things come into focus, we blur out the ideas and comfort in our background. The use of bright color and figure art are influenced by the culture growing up in New Orleans. Pushing the line of appropriate and flair is the very fiber that binds the city. Each figure begins with an AI generated model figure holding the world around. The poses intentionally evoke a feeling of being inhibited, the use of chiaroscuro and complimentary color in the background push the figure out despite her insecurity as she now confidently becomes uniquely herself like poetry that begins in uncertainty and resolves in peace.
Bio
Monique Noel is an Abstract Realism Artist living in Tyler, Texas. She attended NOCCA (New Orleans Center for Creative Arts from 1995-1999. She received a BFA in 2005 from the University of New Orleans and has had several pieces showcased in New Orleans galleries in the art district pre Hurricane Katrina. Her past body of work consisted of commission-only pieces and providing various art pieces for New Orleans charity auctions. Monique Noel spent 3 years teaching drawing, studio art and survey of fine art history classes in New Orleans. Now in her 40s she is an established Creative with a signature style showcasing, one of a kind, studio Mixed Media Oil pieces available for exhibition and collection.
